Tete-a-Tete is a Brooklyn and Austin based tutoring company specializing in test prep, college essay writing, Math and English subject tutoring, and Executive Functioning support. The company is owned and operated by Corey Miller, an educator and writer originally from Southern Illinois. Corey attended the University of Texas for his MFA in Poetry and previously taught 6th, 8th, and 12th graders at Headwaters, an IB school in Austin. After teaching full time and working for a number of tutoring companies, he founded Tete-a-Tete. His writing can be found in the Best New Poets series, Boston Review, Gulf Coast, Kenyon Review, Narrative, and elsewhere.
Our general approach to teaching is to allow students to speak first and explain how they approach problems on their own. Together, we discuss the effectiveness of the strategies they’re already using and work together to strengthen critical thinking skills. We aim to not only fill in gaps in content but to strengthen and encourage independent (creative!) thinking.
